He is not one of those politicians who make empty promises

Ndebele’s words match his actions

Government now belongs to the people – it should not come as a surprise that nowadays black people, including women, are getting tenders to do work.

This is the view of Mrs Thatheni Zondi from Maritzburg. She owns Thatheni Women Construction cc.

She says she was inspired by KZN Minister for Transport, Sbu Ndebele’s programmes. She encountered Mr Ndebele’s Department through Rural Road Transport Forums in her area. She then decided to establish her construction company which is now a part of the Vukuzakhe Emerging Contractors.

Mrs Zondi recalled: "After working with the Department of Transport for five yeas, I now realise that the Minister deserves to be the best. I was impressed by his clever attitude when he took over in 1994; he put his political affiliation aside and concentrated on the needs of the people."

"When he came in he used people who had been working for the previous KwaZulu government and other structures that operated under the apartheid government. I think this is one of the reasons for his success because these people had already gained experience and only needed to be upgraded to face new challenges," says Mrs Zondi.

She added: "One other interesting thing about the Minister is that his vision is not just like that of a politician that speaks and not act. He has shown that he matches his words with his actions. I wonder what will happen to us when he leaves this ministry."

Mrs Zondi is presently working on an R895 000 road tender in Pietermaritzburg. Apart from that, since she established her company, she has had road tends ranging from R27 000, R178 0000, R441 000, R490 0000 to R280 000 and R250 000.
