Manager: Office of the Head, Corporate Services
|

Due
to her vast knowledge on the workings of the Department as well as many years of
experience, Kamintha, was appointed as Manager in the Office of the Head :
Corporate Services in January 2002, taking on the responsibility of the daily
functioning and the management of activities in this office.
Kamintha graduated with a National Diploma in Public
Administration from Technikon Natal in 1990, and with a Post Graduate Diploma in
Human Resource Management from the University of Natal in Pietermaritzburg in
1998. She also studied and completed the Management Development Diploma from the
University of Durban-Westville Graduate School of Business in 2001. She says,
"In those days it was particularly difficult for a woman to progress
through the ranks and in order to ensure that I would have some career
pathing in the future I took it upon myself to embark on further studies".
In the past eighteen years in the Department she has grown in
knowledge/experience and intellectual ability. Kamintha started from the bottom
of the ranks and progressed to where she is now, facing and accepting the many
challenges in her career. She has worked in both the technical and
administrative fields of the Department, and the vast knowledge and experience
she has acquired in respect of the different core functions performed in the
Department stands her in good stead in her current position as Manager in the
Office of the Head: Corporate Services. Kamintha’s mentor is Vicky Cunliffe,
Head: Corporate Services, a WOMAN with an unquestionable dedication and
vision in ensuring that the STRATEGIC DIRECTION of the Department is
realised and who faces challenges in a positive manner.
Kamintha has faced many challenges in her varied career at
the Department. One of these was acting as Parliamentary Officer for the
Department/Minister of Transport. During this period she acted as liaison
between officials at the Legislature, the Department and Ministry relating to
such matters as responses to parliamentary questions, legislation and attending
legislative sittings, parliamentary officer meetings, Transport Portfolio
Committee meetings and so on. She was also instrumental in acting as liaison
between the Consultant, State Law Advisor and departmental officials in the
finalisation of the KwaZulu-Natal Interim Minibus Taxi Act, the KwaZulu-Natal
Provincial Roads Act and the KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Act.
During her years in the Department Kamintha has been
fortunate enough to see transformation take place both in respect of the
organisational structure as well as in the way in which the Department does
business. The Department has become Service Delivery orientated, taking the
services to the people and focussing on the upliftment of previously
disadvantaged communities. These changes have definitely been to the benefit of
all and have paved the way for better prospects for both officials within the
Department and the community at large.
In her spare time away from the office, Kamintha enjoys
collecting antique furniture, spending time with two adorable sons, Darshan and
Jashan, and her very supportive husband, Anand, travelling, cooking and
gardening.
Kamintha's message to women out there -
Be prepared to face whatever
challenges that may come your way and you will realise your goals.
