Senior Secretary to Mr James Mlawu, Head: Strategic Planning

Sharonette Webb was recently nominated for the National Office Professional of the Year 2003. This is an Annual Competition hosted by the PSA (the Association for Secretaries and Office Professionals).

Hundreds of Office Professionals entered this year with the main prizes being worth over R100 000.00. Although she was not placed in the Finals, Sharonette reached the National Semi-Finals and was invited to present her topic at the semi-finals at the B&A Group, Durban. Her topic was "The power of your professional image" and she only had two weeks to prepare. She thanks her friends, colleagues and other professionals at the Department for their encouragement and assistance in preparing her presentation.

Profile

She is Secretary to Mr James Mlawu, Chief Director for Strategic Planning at the Department’s Head Office. She commenced working for the Department in 1999, and has worked with Mr Mlawu for the past 18 months. She says "My manager is a go-getter, he is success driven, working with many high-profile empowerment initiatives that the Chief Directorate is involved in. These initiatives, which have national and international acclaim, include Zibambele, Vukuzakhe, the African Renaissance Roads Upgrading Programme, Rural Road Transport Forums, etc. My job function includes performing all secretarial duties attached to the post and being a personal assistant to my manager, which I thoroughly enjoy."

Member of the Institute of Secretaries and the PSA (the Association for Secretaries and Office Professionals).

Nominated for the National Office Professional of the Year 2003 and reached the National Semi-Finals.

In her leisure time, Sharonette enjoys cycling, sewing, reading, picnicking, enjoying nature – hiking, days on the beach and sitting on cliffs (but not jumping off them).
