2005-2006
MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison – KwaZulu-Natal
presented to the
KZN Provincial Legislature on
29 April 2005 |
- A budget of R 2, 197 532 billion, propoor and geared towards defending the
weak.
- Strong emphasis on the provision of roads for rural development,
particularly access roads to schools, clinics, hospitals, agricultural land,
rural settlements.
- Creating an enabling environment through the KZN Public Transport Bill.
- Poverty alleviation through Zibambele, Vukuzakhe and proper co-ordination
and implementation of the Extended Public Works Programme.
- The regulation of public transport to ensure public access to safe,
efficient and affordable means of transport. The roll out of the taxi
recapitalization programme which will make the ownership of safe and
comfortable minibus taxis more affordable.
- Promotion of black economic empowerment, job creation, gender equity,
integrated and sustainable rural development.
- The creation of a safe road environment through the reduction of road
crashes and the implementation of our slogan "From Zero Tolerance to
100% Compliance".
- The introduction of "development corridors" to promote a more
integrated response to the multi-dimensional and complex nature of poverty.
- Design of Corridors that will secure participation in opportunities
associated with 2010 World Cup.
- Stimulate and Revitalise rail to alleviate damage on our road networks as
well as to divert freight from our roads.
- A systematic programme to access other government pro-poor support
programmes.
- The construction and maintenance of a balanced road network that meets the
mobility needs of all KwaZulu-Natal’s citizens and which supports our
national and provincial growth and development objectives.
- The provision of a user-friendly service to the public which is
consultative and free of corruption and fraud.
