Ladies and Gentlemen

Thank you very much Ladies and Gentlemen for supporting our Summer Holiday Road Safety launch. We are gathered here now to launch our Road safety CD and video. I am extremely delighted to inform you today that our Road Safety messages continue to reach new and broad audiences because of the creativity of our initiatives. Almost every year we work with artists in promoting our Road safety messages.

Today we are launching a second CD and a Video through our partnership with our artists including world-renowned artists like Black Mambazo, Jabu Khanyile and Mdu Masilela. The CD we are launching today has four songs and is entitled Asiphephe 2. It features new artists and some that we have worked with before, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jabu Khanyile, Mdu Masilela, Ndabuko Ntuli, Phuzekhemisi, Deborah Fraser, Khululiwe Sithole and Members of the Joyous Celebration.

You all remember that our very first CD came as a result of a partnership that included Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Boom Shaka, Mandoza, Busi Mhlongo, Phuzekhemisi, Deborah Fraser and Khanyo.

Our partnership with artists has not gone unnoticed and un-rewarded. We have received letters from other Provinces including one from the Premier of one Province who wanted a skills exchange between our Department and their Province on matters concerning road safety. This has been made possible by our partnership with artists who have access to audiences across the cultural, political, linguistic and digital divide.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has also agreed to provide four minutes to flight this message at a very minimal cost. Through our partnerships with artists we continue to save large sums of money that would otherwise have gone into mammoth advertising campaigns.

With these few words I want to thank all artists who have collaborated with us in producing this video and CD. I would like the whole country to know that these artists have sacrificed their energy, time and money towards conveying our road safety messages in that they did not charge anything from the KZN Transport Department except the normal production costs. But given their popularity, which we are using to convey our messages, their contribution is invaluable. This must be applauded and I hope that all road users will listen carefully to the road safety message provided by our artists.

I thank you.
