SCHEDULE OF TAXI INDUSTRY HIV/AIDS AWARENESS JOINT VENTURE ROAD
SHOWS IN KWAZULU-NATAL
The KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Health MECs, Mr S'bu Ndebele and Dr Zweli
Mkhize, have both recently launched a Taxi Industry HIV/AIDS Awareness
Joint Venture. This project is aimed at targeting mainly the taxi
industry which include taxi associations, taxi drivers, hawkers
in the ranks and commuters.
After an intensive analysis on the impact of this epidemic within
the public transport sector, these two departments agreed that the
taxi industry has not been adequately exposed to HIV/AIDS Awareness.
Taxi owners, drivers and hawkers spent most of their time in taxi
ranks therefore are left out in community and business HIV/AIDS
initiatives.
This project is designed in a form of industrial theatre where
actors, musicians and dancers are performing while educating people
about the dangers of HIV/AIDS in taxi ranks. Among famous artists
involved are Mfiliseni Magubane, Maskande musicians; Umuzi weZinsizwa's
actors, Mofokeng, Chirwale, Magubane, Shawe and others.
Members of the media are invited. Please note photo opportunity.
