FIVE PEOPLE KILLED IN ROAD CRASH
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Mr. S'bu Ndebele has expressed his
condolences to the families of the five people who were killed in a road
crash near Ekhombe in the Zululand Region of KwaZulu-Natal yesterday
morning.
According to eyewitnesses, it is alleged that the driver of a Ford
bakkie was travelling on Main Road 50 from Eshowe to Ekhombe when he lost
control of the vehicle around a bend. The bakkie then went down an
embankment and overturned. Five people, including the driver (3 males and
two females), were killed instantly. Three others sustained serious
injuries and were admitted to the Eshowe Hospital.
The KZN Transport Department was only notified of this road crash this
morning as it was attended to by members of the Ekhombe SAPS. However,
senior officials from the KZN Transport Department have already been
dispatched to the area to ascertain the exact cause of the crash as well
as to visit the injured in hospital and the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, MEC Ndebele will hold a memorial service at the Greytown
High School tomorrow (04/03/2004) at 12h00 in memory of the three school
children who met with their untimely death in a road crash in Greytown
last week.
The children aged 4, 8 and 12 were killed instantly and 17 others were
injured in the horrific crash which occurred when a Toyota bakkie
transporting learners from school overturned as a result of a tyre burst.
All media are invited to attend.
For logistical arrangements, all media are please requested to confirm
attendance by no later than 15H00 on Wednesday, 3 March 2004. Confirmation
