TRANSPORT HEAD TO ATTEND ROAD SAFETY DAY IN UMLAZI
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport CEO Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa will be
attending a Road Safety Day tomorrow (14/10/2004) at Mangosuthu Technikon
in Umlazi, south of Durban at 10 am.
Held under the banner of the Umlazi Safer Communities’ Project, the
project is aimed at educating young pedestrians about road safety through
formal education. A series of workshops have been conducted with educators
and principals.
Last month, the project ran a competition for learners in 34 primary
schools which incorporated pedestrian safety and celebrating 10 years of
democracy through road safety. The awards presentations will also be held
tomorrow at the function.
The project is a joint venture between the Department of Transport,
Department of Education, eThekwini Municipality and BP Southern Africa and
they have piloted a holistic approach to Safer Communities.
