KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport S'bu Ndebele will host a memorial
service in memory of the late Dr. Abdullah Omar, former Minister of
Transport at the DLI Hall, Greyville, Durban tomorrow (Thursday, 18 March
2004) commencing at 17h00.
Omar's son, Rustum Omar together with hundreds of other people,
including members of the provincial legislature, representatives from
local government, NGO's and the transport fraternity will be attending
this event.
Paying tribute to Dr. Omar Ndebele said, "Dullah as he was fondly
known was not only a personal friend and comrade but a highly respected
politician, lawyer and a man of integrity. He successfully served our
country as Cabinet Minister in two important portfolios since 1994, which
saw much transformation during his term of office. He stood and fought
till the very end. Even in prison Dullah fought for his comrades. He was
fair-minded and will not rest until the work was finished".
"He was highly regarded for his diplomacy and charisma. He was
also a respected human rights lawyer who gave his life unselfishly to
aiding the transformation to democracy in our country. His commitment and
contribution to the people of South Africa will forever be
remembered," Ndebele said.
