7 PEOPLE DIE IN A HORROR CAR CRASH
Seven people including a 10 month old baby have been killed instantly
in a horrific head on collision between a Truck and a car on the N11
Chelmsford intersection outside Newcastle at 10pm on Friday night. Six
passengers from a car died on the scene and one passenger from a truck
died later in hospital.
Upon impact all six passengers from a Mazda 626 (GP) were trapped
inside the car. Emergency vehicles used Jaws of Life and other hydraulic
equipment to try and save their lives. Three adults and a child are stable
but in a critical condition at Newcastle hospital.
KwaZulu Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele has expressed his condolences to the families of seven people who
were killed. Cele has instructed the police to launch a fully flashed
investigation.
The cause of an accident is not yet known at this stage however judging
from a massive impact it is alleged that both vehicles approached an
intersection at a very high speed. Police investigation is still underway.
Seven counts of culpable homicide have been opened.
