MEC ORDERS FULL INVESTIGATION INTO ANOTHER ARMS CACHE
The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, Safety& Liaison Mr Bheki Cele has instructed police to search the entire building in the Ulundi legislature, northern KwaZulu-Natal following the discovery of another arms cache in one of the offices in the building.
As a result of an ongoing operation conducted by the police to get rid of all illegal weapons in the province, earlier today police discovered a box of ammunitions in the legislature building which contained, among other things, one pipe bomb, four cleaning rods of a shot gun, two magazines of HMC, one magazine of a 9mm pistol, one magazine of a 3.2 9mm pistol and two 9mm pouches.
Cele said that the discovery of the weapons were a cause for concern because the building has been hosting high profile people in the country including the deputy president and that police could not found these weapons when they were conducting their routine inspections.
"It is against this background that I have ordered a thorough investigation to be conducted regarding this matter and we will leave no stone unturned to find the owners of these weapons of war" said Cele.
Last Thursday a cleaner in the legislature found an arms cache in the legislature building, which included eight improvised pipe bombs, a British M36 hand grenade and a 5 litre tin of gunpowder in a disused filing room.
All media are invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities.
