R64 MILLION ROAD UPGRADE FOR OSIZWENI

Head of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, Dr. Kwazi Mbanjwa will officiate at the sod-turning ceremony for Main Road 296 between Buffalo Flats and Newcastle on Friday, 26 March 2004 commencing at 12h00 near Valley Café, Osizweni in Newcastle.

Approximately R64 million will be spent on the upgrading of this 21 kilometre stretch of road which will result in much-needed access for the people of Osizweni, Buffalo Flats, Fairbreeze, Mfudeni, Steildrift and other surrounding areas.

This project is being undertaken as part of the KZN Transport Department's Vukuzakhe Emerging Contractor Programme and will thus create several job opportunities and other economic spin-offs, not only for the emerging contractors but for the local people as well.

Almost 2000 people including Amakhosi, Councillors, representatives from the Department's various stakeholder forums and other stakeholders are expected to attend.
