MEC BHEKI CELE OPENS R1,3 MILLION BRIDGE
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr. Bheki
Cele will officially open the Mpisi River Bridge in Maphumulo, near
Stanger at 10am today.
This R1.3 million bridge will unite communities that have been divided
by the river and make it possible for school children to attend school
during the rainy season.
The bridge will also enable local residents as well as those from
surrounding areas to access, among other things, the Maphumulo hospital
and the magistrate's court.
Tomorrow, (01/12/2004), Cele will hand over R10 000 worth of equipment
to four schools that participated in the department's Road Safety
Participatory Education Techniques Project (PET).
PET is one of the initiatives undertaken by the KZN Department of
Transport to raise road safety awareness at grassroots level by asking
schools to identify road safety problems that have a negative impact on
their communities.
