SEVEN PEOPLE DIE IN CAR ACCIDENT
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Safety and Security Mr Bheki Cele has
expressed his condolences to the families of seven people who were killed
in a horror car crash at Eshowe, northern KwaZulu-Natal yesterday at
5:50pm.
The accident which left nine people seriously injured, occurred along
R66 near Eshowe when a bakkie and a Honda Ballade collided. Those who were
injured were admitted to Eshowe Hospital.
Police are still battling to establish what could have been the cause
of the accident since the drivers of both vehicles were killed.
Cele said that it was sad that within a week the region has lost 24
lives on roads.
"Last week eight people were killed in a bus accident in Vryheid
while returning from a wedding in Newcastle. Another nine people were
killed including a one-week-old infant near Empangeni on Monday,"
said Cele.
Cele said the department would launch a full investigation into the
accident and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when they are
driving.
Cele will visit families of the deceased and the nine people who were
injured at Eshowe hospital this afternoon at 5pm.
