Treated Timber ProductionThe main producers of treated timber in KwaZulu Natal are
located near Harding, Richmond, Wartburg, Cramond and
Ahrens.
The industry supplies timber for power and telephone
lines, building and fencing throughout South Africa, and
exports to Namibia and other neighbouring states.
The raw materials for the industry are primarily selected
eucalyptus logs from the forests of the KZN Midlands and
Zululand.

For most of the timber treatment plants all inbound and
outbound transport is by road due to unavailability of
rail transport. The Wartburg plant has been an exception
in that there has been 20% usage of rail and 80% road for
the transport of the raw timber for treatment.
The treated timber from some producers in the Midlands is
transported by rail to the port of Durban and Namibia,
and by road to the rest of South Africa.
