TRAIN PLANNING, CONTROL AND CUSTOMER SERVICES

There are three Area Managers dealing with rail users in the in KwaZulu-Natal. They are located at Durban, Empangeni and Ladysmith. They and their staff are in regular contact with rail users and the National Planning Office in Johannesburg where train operations are planned using the Next Week’s Business system. All locomotive and wagon requirements, as well as train planning is coordinated between the respective parties.

CTC is also used on the Ladysmith – Free State mainline, the Glencoe – Vryheid line and parts of ther North and South Coast lines.
