TRAIN PLANNING, CONTROL AND CUSTOMER SERVICESThere are three Area Managers dealing with rail users in
the in KwaZulu-Natal.
They are located at Durban, Empangeni and Ladysmith. They
and their staff are
in regular contact with rail users and the National
Planning Office in
Johannesburg where train operations are planned using the
Next Week’s
Business system. All locomotive and wagon requirements, as
well as train
planning is coordinated between the respective parties. Train control on the Natcor main line and the coal line is
by Centralised Traffic Control (CTC), operated from a
number of centres en-route. CTC is also used on the
Ladysmith – Free State mainline, the Glencoe –
Vryheid
line and parts of ther North and South Coast lines. Radio
train control, or the Track Warrant System is used on
other lines including the branches.
