Requirements for a Pro Driving Permit
YOU need to hold a valid driver’s licence when applying for a
Professional Driving Permit (PRDP). You can apply for a PRDP only for the
code of licence that you hold. People who drive buses, for instance, need to
hold this permit.

The requirements
- An applicant must fill in a yellow PD1 form
- The applicant must be examined by a doctor and issued with a signed
and stamped certificate
- Have your fingerprints taken at a police station. The police will
retain the forms
Your next step
- Return to the test center after about seven weeks to find out if the
police have returned the forms
- If the forms are there, you will need a valid identity document, four
black and white passport-size photographs and R205.00 for the issue of a

Note that PRDP forms are valid for six months only. If you fail to have
the forms processed within this period, you have to start the process again.
If applicants convert their licence to the card type and apply for their
PRDP at the same time, they will have to pay the outstanding penalties for
failing to convert in the required period.
